Short-Term Storage in Chicago, IL

When your closing dates miss or a winter move leaves a gap, we hold your household in a secure bay at our Archer Avenue yard and return it when you're set — with billing by the week rather than a locked-in monthly rate.

Archer's Moving Services crew loading boxes into the moving truck in Chicago

Run by the owner, not a front desk

Dial the office and it’s Danny picking up, or a mover who actually rides the trucks — never a scripted call center. Point out the turning greystone stairs, the alley-only load, or the block where nothing parks legally, and the whole day is mapped before your date lands.

Priced on paper before we lift a box

We walk the place room by room to build your number, and the wardrobe cartons, moving pads, dollies and shrink-wrap are already inside it — so nothing gets tacked on once the crew is standing at the curb.

Full pack or just the fragile stuff

Hand us the whole kitchen for dish barrels, let wardrobe cartons carry your closet off the rod on their hangers, or point out the mirrors, flat-screens and glass tabletops we crate to fit for the ride across town.

The same faces from door to door

Whoever measures your home at the estimate is the crew chief driving the truck and doing the final empty-house walk with you — a Pilsen two-flat, an Oak Park bungalow or a Streeterville tower on the freight elevator, your things never change hands.

Closings slip and the calendar rarely lines up — money clears on the old place before the new one is move-in ready, or a January closing leaves a week or two hanging. Rather than renting a whole month on a unit you’d barely open, we tuck your things into our own secure bay on Archer Avenue and bill you by the week.

How the storage works

  • Everything blanket-wrapped and shrink-filmed before it’s set into the bay
  • Kept in a clean, secure, locked bay at our own Chicago yard
  • Held indoors through the winter so wood, leather and electronics never sit in the cold and damp
  • Carried back out by the same crew the day you give the word

The crew that empties your home is the same crew that warehouses it and delivers it back, so your belongings never pass through a rented locker or somebody else’s warehouse. Give Bridget your two dates — a short gap between closings, or a stretch of winter months — and your goods stay under the very same released-value protection your move carries.

Part of Every Move

Each item here is baked into how our crews work a job — not one of them shows up as a surprise line at the bottom of your bill.

  • Charged by the week, so a few days between closings never costs a whole month you won't use
  • Each item padded, wrapped and sealed the moment it comes off the truck
  • Stored in a clean, locked, secure bay on our own Archer Avenue lot
  • Kept warm and dry indoors so leather, wood and electronics don't crack through a Chicago winter
  • Loaded in, watched over and carried back out by the same crew that packed your home
  • Your goods never handed off to a rented storage locker or an outside warehouse
  • Return trip scheduled to your closing date or the day the new place is finally ready

Questions We Hear a Lot

My closing got pushed and I'm out of my place in January — can you hold everything?
Yes. When a Chicago closing slips, we keep your load wrapped and stored at the Archer Avenue yard and bring it back the day the keys come through. Just give Bridget the new date — it's billed by the week, so a short wait stays cheap.
Will my furniture sit in the cold, or is the storage heated?
It's kept indoors and warm. Your things stay in a clean, locked bay — not a metal container out in the yard — so leather, wood and electronics come out in the same shape they went in, even after a full winter.
Do I have to pay for a full month if I only need storage for ten days?
No. We bill by the week, not the month, so a short gap between homes costs only the time you actually use. Longer holds over the winter work the same way.
What if I only need to stash a couple of big pieces, not a whole home?
That works fine. It can be one truckload or just the oversized items that won't fit after a downsize — think a three-flat couple paring down before a condo — and you're charged only for the room used and the weeks it's with us.
Who handles my things while they're in storage?
The same crew that loads you out stores your goods at our own yard and carries them back in. Nothing ever detours to a third-party locker, and no stranger handles your belongings between the two moves.
From the first carton loaded to the last one carried in, one Chicago crew owns your whole move

How Your Move Day Unfolds

  1. 1

A written estimate the same day

On our end: Tell us how many rooms, whether it’s a walk-up or a ground-floor carry-out, and the parking on your block — and a figure in writing is usually in your inbox before we close up for the night.

Where you help: Have your two dates ready, the day you’re out and the day you’re in, along with any building or garage-door codes; that’s what tightens a ballpark into a firm price.

  2. 2

    Date booked, access cleared

On our end: Ahead of the day we lock in the moving permit for curb space, reserve the freight-elevator window, and square the certificate of insurance with your management office or condo board, so the truck lands at your door and nobody hauls a dresser half a block.

Where you help: Let us know the earliest you can hand back the old keys and the earliest you can get into the new place, and flag whichever of those two days barely bends.

  3. 3

    Blanket, shrink-wrap, tag, carry

On our end: Every dresser and couch goes under moving blankets and a skin of stretch film, and the hardware off each bed frame or table gets zipped into a marked bag we tape right to the piece it came from.

Where you help: Label your own cartons with the room they belong in at the new place, and keep passports, keys and anything small and valuable in your own car, not on our truck.

  4. 4

    Haul, unload, set it right

On our end: The same hands that filled the truck empty it at the far end — each piece put exactly where you want it, bed frames bolted back together, and every scrap of used wrap and tape carried out with us.

Where you help: Walk the empty rooms with the crew chief before the truck pulls away, while a quick touch-up is still just a quick touch-up.

What should you set aside for a Chicago move?

Give us the size of the place, the date you’ve got in mind, and roughly what’s coming along, and we email back a written estimate that same day. Nothing due up front and no deposit — only a figure you can plan the whole move around.

  • Fully licensed and insured — we hold Illinois Commerce Commission authority on in-state jobs and pick up federal US DOT and MC authority the instant the truck leaves Illinois
  • Whatever number you sign off on is the number the crew is held to — it comes from an actual room-by-room count, never a guess made from the curb
  • Every mover shows up in our uniform, draws a W-2 check from us, and drives a truck the company owns
