Local Movers in Chicago, IL

From a Logan Square two-flat to a bungalow out in Oak Park, our own Chicago crews carry it start to finish. Owner Danny Kowalczyk grew up off Archer Avenue and still works the tough winter and stair jobs himself.

Run by the owner, not a front desk

Dial the office and it’s Danny picking up, or a mover who actually rides the trucks — never a scripted call center. Point out the turning greystone stairs, the alley-only load, or the block where nothing parks legally, and the whole day is mapped before your date lands.

Priced on paper before we lift a box

We walk the place room by room to build your number, and the wardrobe cartons, moving pads, dollies and shrink-wrap are already inside it — so nothing gets tacked on once the crew is standing at the curb.

Full pack or just the fragile stuff

Hand us the whole kitchen for dish barrels, let wardrobe cartons carry your closet off the rod on their hangers, or point out the mirrors, flat-screens and glass tabletops we crate to fit for the ride across town.

The same faces from door to door

Whoever measures your home at the estimate is the crew chief driving the truck and doing the final empty-house walk with you — a Pilsen two-flat, an Oak Park bungalow or a Streeterville tower on the freight elevator, your things never change hands.

Most of what we run is neighborhood work — a Logan Square walk-up to a Lakeview two-flat, a Pilsen condo out to a Berwyn bungalow, or a full house from the city to Evanston. Sal Marino builds the truck board and sorts the parking before the crew ever pulls up, and you decide how it’s priced: an open hourly clock, or a flat figure once we’ve walked the rooms.

What it costs

  • Two-person crew plus the truck: $149 an hour
  • Add a third mover: $209 an hour
  • One-hour minimum, with pads, dollies, shrink-wrap and wardrobe boxes thrown in
  • Prefer a flat number? Studio $400–$640, two-bed $720–$1,180, three-bed $1,240–$1,960

We cover the city and all of Cook County — Logan Square, Pilsen, Hyde Park and out through Oak Park, Cicero, Skokie and Naperville. Sal pulls the residential parking permits and works out alley and gangway access, so on a tight street the truck sits right at your door instead of a block away.

Part of Every Move

Each item here is baked into how our crews work a job — not one of them shows up as a surprise line at the bottom of your bill.

  • Two or three movers put on the job to fit your home and your date
  • Hourly by the clock or a flat rate locked in first — whichever you'd rather
  • Pads, dollies, shrink-wrap and wardrobe boxes loaded on the truck at no charge
  • Residential parking permits and alley access sorted by Sal Marino ahead of the day
  • Bed frames, tables and shelving broken down at the old place and put back together at the new one
  • Pianos, gun safes and tight three-flat staircases worked by Deon Carter's lead crew
  • Service across Chicago and all of Cook County, from Rogers Park down to the South Side

Questions We Hear a Lot

How do you park the truck on a narrow Chicago street with permit parking?
Sal handles it. We pull the residential parking permits your block needs and scout the alley and gangway ahead of time, so the truck is at the door on move day instead of double-parked down the street. No 'dibs' chair standoff on our end.
Can I get a flat price instead of paying by the hour?
Absolutely. Once we know the room count and how tight the access is on each end, we'll set one flat figure — figure $400 to $640 for a studio, $1,240 to $1,960 for a three-bedroom — and the clock stays off the whole day.
Do you move out to the suburbs like Naperville or Schaumburg, or just inside the city?
Both. We cover all of Chicagoland — Oak Park, Evanston, Skokie, Elmhurst, out to Naperville and Schaumburg — quoted as a local job with the travel time spelled out on your written estimate.
Is it a bad idea to move in the middle of a Chicago winter?
Not with the right crew. January is one of our steadier months — rates are softer, and we clear and salt a path, lay floor runners against the slush, and keep everything wrapped against the wet. We just build a weather cushion into the schedule.
Is this a genuine Chicago moving outfit, or just a lead-matching middleman?
The genuine article. Working out of a yard on Archer Avenue, Archer's Moving Services is owner-run, licensed and insured, rolling trucks we own with crews in our own shirts. Your job is never bought or resold — the move is ours from start to finish.
From the first carton loaded to the last one carried in, one Chicago crew owns your whole move

How Your Move Day Unfolds

  1. 1

A written estimate the same day

On our end: Tell us how many rooms, whether it’s a walk-up or a ground-floor carry-out, and the parking on your block — and a figure in writing is usually in your inbox before we close up for the night.

Where you help: Have your two dates ready, the day you’re out and the day you’re in, along with any building or garage-door codes; that’s what tightens a ballpark into a firm price.

  2. 2

    Date booked, access cleared

On our end: Ahead of the day we lock in the moving permit for curb space, reserve the freight-elevator window, and square the certificate of insurance with your management office or condo board, so the truck lands at your door and nobody hauls a dresser half a block.

Where you help: Let us know the earliest you can hand back the old keys and the earliest you can get into the new place, and flag whichever of those two days barely bends.

  3. 3

    Blanket, shrink-wrap, tag, carry

On our end: Every dresser and couch goes under moving blankets and a skin of stretch film, and the hardware off each bed frame or table gets zipped into a marked bag we tape right to the piece it came from.

Where you help: Label your own cartons with the room they belong in at the new place, and keep passports, keys and anything small and valuable in your own car, not on our truck.

  4. 4

    Haul, unload, set it right

On our end: The same hands that filled the truck empty it at the far end — each piece put exactly where you want it, bed frames bolted back together, and every scrap of used wrap and tape carried out with us.

Where you help: Walk the empty rooms with the crew chief before the truck pulls away, while a quick touch-up is still just a quick touch-up.

What should you set aside for a Chicago move?

Give us the size of the place, the date you’ve got in mind, and roughly what’s coming along, and we email back a written estimate that same day. Nothing due up front and no deposit — only a figure you can plan the whole move around.

  • Fully licensed and insured — we hold Illinois Commerce Commission authority on in-state jobs and pick up federal US DOT and MC authority the instant the truck leaves Illinois
  • Whatever number you sign off on is the number the crew is held to — it comes from an actual room-by-room count, never a guess made from the curb
  • Every mover shows up in our uniform, draws a W-2 check from us, and drives a truck the company owns

Ask for your free estimate

Fire it over on a weekday and an answer usually comes back inside the hour.

Sending this costs nothing and ties you to nothing — what you enter goes only to our Southwest Side office, builds your quote alone, and never travels any further. Our Privacy Policy lays out exactly where each detail lives and which staff can pull it up.
